Shooting Furry Animals

No animals were harmed in the making of this column – though I must confess to having considered the possibility of slaughtering a few, given that this week’s subject is shooting. More specifically: why has shooting suddenly become so popular amongst business types?

Of course, blasting animals to pâté has always been a pursuit favoured by a certain breed of executive. Sir Rocco Forte was famously out shooting on the day that Gerry Robinson’s Granada launched a bid for his family inheritance, the Trust House Forte group. And John Lewis, the department store group, once offered pheasant shooting as a perk to partners staying at Leckford, its Hampshire estate.
